Patna, the capital city of the Indian state of Bihar is one of the oldest inhabited city in the whole world. In the ancient times, it was known as Patliputra, the seat of learning and fine arts and thus was the capital of Magadha Empire.
Along with this, Patna is also a very important city for the people of Sikh religion, and is visited by the followers every year, in large numbers. The main reason behind this is that it is the birthplace of the 10th guru of the Sikh religion, Guru Gobind Singh. Along with this, one of the four sacred shrines of this religion, the Har Mandir Takht which is popularly known as Patna Sahib (built in white marble, commissioned by Maharaja Ranjit Singh) is also situated here. Here one can also catch a glimpse of the personal belongings of Guru but it is important to seek special permission for it first.
